The Struggle is Real: Dark Underarms

This might seem like a strange post but I know I am not the only one who has naturally darker underarms. Dark underarms are usually caused by genetics, dead skin build up, using the wrong deodorant, etc. Here are a few easy and inexpensive tips to help lighten your underarms for so that you can feel comfortable wearing those cute tank tops and bikinis all summer long!

1. EXFOLIATE!! The underarm area is very sensitive, so use a loofah or a gentle body scrub to exfoliate the area and remove all the dead skin and bacteria that could be hiding under there (do this before shaving for a closer and smoother shave). Sugar scrubs can be a little pricey sometimes, so I recommend hitting up Pinterest for a good DIY scrub to make at home, that’s what I do!

2. Find a good, natural soap to clean the underarms after exfoliating. I really like the Orchid Skin Brightening Cleansing bar soap ($2.50). This soap is specifically made to lighten dark and even out the skin tone (also good for bikini area). Another bar soap I really like is the Kirk’s Original Coco Castile bar soap ($4 for pack of 3). This is a pure botanical coconut oil soap that is all natural and wont clog pores.

3. Find a good deodorant. My absolute favorite deodorant to use every day is the Dove Advanced Care Clear Tone deodorant ($5). It is a little pricey for a deodorant but this stuff is amazing and I have repurchased it probably 4 or 5 times! It is specifically made to restore skin to its natural tone and I noticed it working after one use! It is also a 48 hour anti-perspirant. I have tried a few natural deodorants, like the one from Tom’s, because it is recommended to use a deodorant that does not contain aluminum, but these just do not work for me personally (and gave me burns).

4. Avoid using lemon juice or alcohol to “lighten” underarms. Like I said earlier, the underarm area is sensitive and these two are way too strong and can dry out the skin, causing rashes or burns.

There are many other ways and remedies to help lighten underarms, but these are the steps I use and that work for me. I hope this helped!

Hidden Gem at the Drugstore: Jordana Best Lash Extreme Volumizing Mascara

Jordana is a drugstore brand that can be found at Walgreens only (I am pretty sure) and I feel like this brand is never really talked about. I do love their lip liners, but that is the only product that I had ever tried from the line. I was watching a Kathleen Lights video on YouTube (beauty vlogger) and she said this is her favorite drugstore mascara. It is only around $3 so I decided to give it a try and if I didn’t end up liking it, then I wouldn’t feel bad because it was so inexpensive. Other than from Kathleen, I have not heard anything about this product so I just decided to try it out for myself!

Bottom line: I LOVE THIS MASCARA! Here’s why…

  • It adds so much volume to my lashes without making them clumpy however, you only need two coats of this stuff or else it can look a little too thick and unnatural.
  • The wand is the perfect size to really make an impact on the lashes and applies the product evenly.
  • This is not a waterproof mascara and comes right off with my usual makeup remover- coconut oil.
  • It is only advertised as a volumizing mascara, but it does add length to my lashes and it holds a curl beautifully. Sometimes I like to add Covergirl’s Supersize mascara (lengthening mascara) to the tips of my lashes to get the best of both worlds but it still looks great without that extra step!
  • It works well for bottom lashes as well.
  • It does not smudge or flake.

The Maybelline Colossal mascara (yellow tube) was my ride or die favorite drugstore mascara, but the only thing I was not a fan of was the fact that it did not hold a curl for very long. This Jordana mascara is awesome and definitely something that I will continue to repurchase!
