Trendy “Instagram Makeup” (Using Instagram-Hyped Products)

“Instagram Makeup” has become quite popular recently and I wanted to create my own version. If you are unfamiliar with this trend, it basically takes makeup application to the extreme (bold brows, bold lips, cut-crease eye shadow, dramatic fake lashes, fake freckles, contour, highlight, the list goes on and on…). I also created this makeup look using products that are very popular amongst the beauty community just to go along with the theme.

For this look, I did a half cut-crease eye, bold brows, faux freckles, and warm pinky brown lip color. This makeup is full coverage and would also be great for prom!

For a full list of products used, keep on reading!

FACE

  • Tarte Amazonian Clay full coverage foundation
  • Tarte Shape Tape concealer
  • RCMA no color powder to set the concealer
  • Kat Von D Shade + Light contour palette
  • Benefit Hoola bronzer

  • Becca x Jaclyn Hill highlighter in Champagne Pop
  • For the faux freckles I used the Eyeko Fat Brow liquid liner (it’s meant for your brows but it was the perfect freckle shade lol)

EYES

  • Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette. I layered shades Golden Ochre, Burnt Orange, Raw Sienna as transition shades. Applied Red Ochre and Venetian Red in the crease. Used Cyprus Umber to deepen the outer corner.
  • Tarte Shape Tape concealer to trace out the half cut crease then patted the shade Primavera from the palette on top.
  • Used the same crease shades on the bottom lashline and smoked this out heavily.
  • Ardell Demi Whispies lashes
  • L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon black eyeliner pencil

BROWS

  • Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow pomade in medium brown

LIPS

How To: Creating the Perfect Smokey Eye

Achieving a perfect smokey eye seems simple enough, but if you aren’t using the right technique it can leave your eye makeup lookin patchy and unblended.

Keep scrolling for the smokey eye tip that will save your look!

So, here’s my tip: a cream base! For maximum pigmentation and staying power, the best way to make your smokey eye pop is to apply a cream base all over your lids before patting on the shadow. In the picture above, I applied the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in black bean all over my lid and blended it out into the crease. Then, I patted on the matte black shade “punk” from the Tarte Tarteist Pro eyeshadow palette (any matte black will do) to intensify the color and set the cream base. The powder shadow will adhere to the cream base so much better than your bare eyelid or primer. If you try to just go in with a shadow and smoke it out, you will have to keep layering and layering the color because you’ll keep blending out the pigmentation and it might start to get patchy as well. By patting a shadow overtop of a cream, you are getting the most out of the shadow by not buffing it out too much.

Hopefully this post was helpful and will make your makeup application much easier!

My March Ipsy Glam Bag!

I’m loving all the products in my March Ipsy Glam Bag + the bag this month is my favorite so far! Keep reading to see what I got and my review on the products.

Ofra Cosmetics Peach blush: this is a gorgeous shade! It is a little too shimmery to use solely as a blush for me, but I love it as a highlight or shimmer shade for the center of the eyelid.

City Color Photo Chic Dark Spot Corrector: I love the dark circle Corrector from Nyx and this one works just as well for me! It has a little bit more of a peachy tint so it corrects my dark circles really well. It does not crease on me and concealer still applies well on top of it. I can also wear this by itself if I don’t feel like putting on any heavy makeup.

Chella Tweezers: First, I think the design of these tweezers is so cute! Aside from that, they are really good for getting out tiny stubborn hairs that grow outside the shape of my brows. Love them!

Eyeko Fat Brow Liquid Liner: I was kind of thrown off by this product because I’ve never seen or used anything like it. Basically it is a felt tip eyeliner pen- for your brows! It is not super pigmented which is a good thing because it does not make my brows look like they are drawn on. The only thing I’m not crazy about is the shade because it has a slight greenish tint to it. But if I only use a little bit you cannot really tell. Overall, I like how unique and easy to use this product is!

Ladykin Affinitic Snail Cream moisturizer: Snail secretion in facial moisturizers is a Japanese beauty trend that is making its way to America. Snail secretion sounds gross to be putting on your skin, but it has amazing moisturizing and anti-aging benefits. I was super excited to receive this product in my Glam Bag this month because I have wanted to try this trend out for myself. I love how quickly this product absorbs into my skin without leaving a greasy residue. It leaves my skin feeling really soft and smooth. It also smells really good, which I was not expecting.

Product Review: Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream

I am not sure if this a new product, but it is new to me! I have been looking for a foundation that isn’t super full coverage and that I can just apply really quickly and run out the door.

Keep reading for my full review on this product!

Product claims and info (from the Bare Minerals site):

  • Acts as a BB and CC cream
  • SPF 30
  • Dewey, radiant, smooth finish
  • Sheer to medium coverage
  • Contains marine botanicals and electrolytes that help to hydrate your skin
  • Claims to increase skin hydration by 215% in just one week of use
  • 16 shades (I am the shade Buttercream)
  • 1.18 fluid ounces for $29.50

My review:

This product is perfect for achieving the popular “no makeup” makeup look. This product does say it gives sheer to medium coverage and this is very true. One layer evens out my skin tone nicely, but to cover any blemishes I apply a second layer. It builds up to a medium coverage nicely and still just looks like a better version of my skin. Sometimes if I do not want to wear a foundation, I will Conceal any blemishes and then apply this product on top. This technique gives me a full coverage appearance without feeling too heavy or looking like makeup.

It is suggested to apply the product with your hands, but I still like to use a beauty sponge and the finish still looks great! I was expecting the consistency to be very liquid-y, but it actually had a lightweight whipped consitency. My skin has become less oily and more on the combo to normal side, so I really like the dewey finish this tinted moisturizer gives.

The website does not mention how long lasting this product is, but I have worn it for a good 10 hours and it still looked pretty good when I went to wash off my makeup. It separated a little bit around my nose, but almost every foundation I have does the same thing. On me, it did not look too greasy and held up nicely throughout the day. However, if you do have really oily skin, I would not recommend this product for long wear. For oily skin I think it would be nice if you just need some coverage to go run a few errands, but since it does have a really dewey finish, I do not think it would last as long on oily skin types.

Overall, I am very happy with this product and have been wearing it everyday since I bought it. The Garnier BB Cream used to be my #1 favorite, and while I still like that product, the Complexion Rescue tinted moisturizer definitely stands out for me!

Hot Product of the Week: NYX Strobe of Genius Illuminating Palette

I have heard so many great things about this highlighting palette and couldn’t wait to add it to my makeup collection!

Keep reading for my review!

This palette consists of 7 beautiful highlighting shades and retails for $19 at Ulta. This might seem like a steep price for NYX, which is a drugstore brand, but in my opinion it is well worth it!

The top row consists of 4 highlighting shades that have a slight iridescence to them. Iridescent shades have been quite popular lately with the Anastasia Beverly Hills Moonchild Glow Kit and the more recent Kat Von D Alchemist palette. If you are looking for a more inexpensive way to achieve these kinds of looks, this palette is definitely a great option!

In addition to the iridescent shades, the bottom row consists of three more wearable shades. The Lee is a shade for medium skin, deeper skin, and pale skin. Basically, every highlight you could ever need is in this palette!

Aside from the colors, the formula of the highlights is incredible! They are extremely buttery and pigmented and don’t have too much powder kick-back. These aren’t the most intense highlight shades at first, but you can definitely build up the intensity. This makes it perfect for everyone, no matter what kind of look you are going for.

What’s In My February Ipsy Glam Bag?!

Keep reading to see what I received in my Glam Bag this month as well as a quick review on each product!

Befine Food Skin Care gentle cleanser with sugar, mint, oats, and rice: Obviously I do not have much of an opinion on this product quite yet since skincare products require more than a first impression (in my opinion). I do like that it has a bunch of awesome natural ingredients in it though and it smells amazing! The texture is a thin gel consistency and seems very moisturizing and gentle.

NYX Butter Lipstick shade Lifeguard: This is a beautiful blue-toned red shade! The pigmentation is amazing and it goes on very opaque. I have never tried a NYX lip product that I haven’t liked and this one is no exception!

Winky Lux Diamond Powder in medium: I love this powder so much! It has a slight luminosity to it, hence the name, and I love using it to set my under eye concealer. It doesn’t crease on me and it really brightens up the area and makes my skin look flawless! It is a little bit powdery, but it the consistency is very smooth and blends out beautifully.

Elizabeth Mott Whatup Beaches Matte Bronzer: I really like the shade and texture of this bronzer- it is not too cool, but not too warm. The only thing I don’t like is that the sample is way too small for me to even get a bronzer brush in the pan. So instead, I use it as a transition shade when I do my eyeshadow and I love the way it looks!

Luxie 514 Blush Brush: This is the product that I was most excited for because I have never tried any Luxie Beauty products before and everyone raves about their brushes. This brush is a little too small for me to use as a blush brush, but I love it to contour with! The brush hairs are incredibly soft and not too densely packed so it applied product and blends it out flawlessly. It is perfect if you want to achieve a soft contoured look, but you can also build up the color as well.
