Smoked-Out Wing: Eye Look

This picture of Kylie inspired me to put my own twist on this smokey winged liner eye look.

Products used for the eyes:

  • I used scotch tape to get a sharp wing effect (peel of tape from the back of your hand a few times before applying to face to remove some of the stickiness)
  • Morphe 35O palette
  • NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Black Bean
  • Black eyeshadow from the UD Naked 2 palette
  • Jordana Best Lash mascara
  • MAC Nylon eyeshadow for inner corner and brow bone highlight

How To: Tighten Pores & Improve Your Complexion

This is a very easy and inexpensive way that I like to do once every two weeks or so to really shrink my pores and give my skin a little extra TLC. This works extremely well and you will definitely notice a difference in your skin after just one use!

Products you will need:

  • Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay ($6-8, you can find this online or at a health food store).clay
  • Distilled white vinegar
  • A manual complexion brush/ Clarisonic (or something like this). I use just a typical complexion brush, but anything like this will work just fine.

Here are the steps:

  • Mix equal parts of the clay and white vinegar in a small bowl (a teaspoon full of each is plenty) until the consistency is a liquidy paste.
  • Immediately apply the mixture to your face and neck evenly (if you let it sit in the bowl for too long, it will dry out).
  • Let this mask sit on your face for about 10 minutes (it will get stiff quickly and if you experience a slight stinging sensation, that is just the vinegar in action!).
  • After letting the mask sit for about 10 minutes, run your complexion brush under warm water and gently massage away the mask. This does get kind of messy, but the clay cleans up easily and is totally worth it!
  • After all the mask residue is gone, pat your face dry with a clean wash cloth or paper towel.

That’s it!

This is extremely easy and does not take too long to see great results! You can do this in the morning before you do your makeup and go about your day, or at night before you go to sleep.

Best Of: Wet N Wild Cosmetics

I have mentioned Wet N Wild products so many times in my blog posts, but for such an inexpensive brands, a lot of their products are so amazing! I have not tried every product from the line, but here are my favorite products from Wet N Wild that I have tried and use religiously.

*All prices listed come from the Wet N Wild website*

MegaLast Lip Color ($1.99)

wet 1

These lipsticks are a common favorite from the brand, but they really are fantastic. The formula is a little dry at first, but if you warm it up a little on the back of your hand you will get an even application that is opaque and budge- proof all day long.

MegaLast Nail Color/ Polish ($1.99)

wet 2

These are some of my favorite polishes from the drugstore! The brush on these polishes is amazing and allows for a flawless application. The colors are also gorgeous! I like some of these polishes better than ones from OPI!

ColorIcon Blushes ($2.99)

wet 3

These blushes are also a common favorite. All of the shades are beautiful and they apply evenly and are not patchy at all! They have matte and shimmer shades for a blush/ highlighted look.

PhotoFocus Setting Spray ($4.99)

wet 5

I only like two setting sprays from the drugstore and this is one of them! I find that it sets and prolongs the wear of my makeup really well. The only downside is that the spray is not as fine as I would like, but that has never ruined my makeup and it still does the job.

Reserve Your Cabana “Bronzer” ($3.99)

wet 4

I already have a full post dedicated to this gem so I won’t go too much into detail. If you don’t have this product in your makeup collection, I seriously recommend going and picking it up. It is a gorgeous subtle highlight for any skin tone!

MegaGlo Contouring Palettes ($4.99)

I have also talked about these two on my blog as well but they are SO GOOD! You get a ton of product and the formula is a powder, but the consistency is so smooth and soft it almost feels like a cream. These blend beautifully and have great pigmentation. If you are looking for a drugstore contour kit option, definitely pick these up.

MegaGlo Illuminating Palette ($4.99)

wet 7

This highlight palette is so pretty! It is more intense than the Reserve Your Cabana one I talked about above if you want something with a little more glow power. Again, you get a good amount of product and the strips are big enough to just pick up one shade, or combine all four shades for a beautiful highlight.

Pink and White Brushes ($0.99-$2.99)

wet 8

All of these brushes are FANTASTIC! I am obsessed with them and use them everyday. They are so incredibly soft and for the price you would pay for one MAC brush, you could get every brush from this collection! I cannot say enough about these, they are just great, great brushes for any price range.

These next two products I could not find on the Wet N Wild website, but I have seen them in the drugstore.

PhotoFocus Eyeshadow Primer ($4.99)- This eye primer is amazing and it works the same, if not better, than the Urban Decay one!

ColorIcon Ombre Blushes ($4.99)- These are shimmery blushes but are so pretty! You can use them as a blush, blush topper, or as a highlight depending on which part of the ombre you pick up with your blush! They blend and apply just as well as the original ColorIcon blushes and are just so good.

Hidden Gem At the Drugstore!: Essence Lash Princess

Essence is another inexpensive brand (found on the drugstore side of Ulta) that can be hit or miss but I have found THE BEST mascara from this brand for less than $5!

Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect mascara ($4.99)

lash princess

First of all, the packaging is absolutely adorable, but it is the wand and product inside that creates the magic. This mascara claims to give a false lash effect and it definitely does!

**I apologize in advance for my ratchet- looking eyebrows lol!**

My lashes uncurled with no product.

My lashes curled with no product.

One coat of product.

Two coats of product.

Hands down, this mascara has quickly become my favorite drugstore mascara! It knocks my previous go- to lengthening mascara (Covergirl Super Sizer) out of the water. I will say, it is not the best for adding volume and if you apply too much it can look a little clumpy. I recommend giving your lashes one good coat with the Lash Princess, letting it dry, and then going in with your favorite volumizing mascara and focusing that at the base of your lashes. This seems a little high maintenance but I swear you will have a great lash day every time!

Definitely go out and pick up this mascara, I have quickly become obsessed!

My Everyday Makeup Look

This is the way I have been doing my makeup almost everyday when I am just going to go run some errands or meet up with a friend. It is very bronzed and “natural” looking, so perfect for summer!

Products I used:

  • Garnier BB Cream
  • Rimmel Stay Matte Translucent Powder
  • RCMA No Color Powder
  • Covergirl Tru Bronze in shade Bronze
  • Milani Baked Bronzer
  • Wet N Wild Colour Icon blush
  • Wet N Wild MegaGlo highlight palette
  • Anastasia Beverly Hills Bronzer in Havana (as eyeshadow)
  • Jordana Best Lash mascara
  • Maybelline Lash Sensational (waterproof)
  • NYX Butter Gloss in Fortune Cookie
  • Milani Brow Gel

Best Of: Milani Cosmetics

Milani is a drugstore brand that can be a hit or miss in terms of the quality of their products. Here are the products from Milani that I have tried and fallen in love with!

Milani Matte Color Statement lipsticks ($5)

milani 7

These are so creamy and pigmented! They apply very evenly and have a wide variety of shades.

Milani Color Statement lipliner ($4)

milani 5

I love these lipliners! My favorite shade is All Natural. It lasts all day and the formula is not as drying as the MAC lipliners.

Milani Baked Bronzer in Bronze ($8)

milani 1

These baked bronzers are amazing! They are one of my favorite products the drugstore has to offer in terms of cosmetics! I like the shade Bronze, but it is on the warm/ orange-y side so if you are more fair I do not recommend this shade in particular, but they do have more shades that suit different skin tones. It does have shimmer (baked products typically do) but it is not over the top by any means. It gives the most beautiful sun- kissed glow and is perfect for summer!

Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso ($6)

milani 2

This is a cult favorite beauty product from Milani, but it really does live up to all the praise. This blush so so beautiful and can be a blush and highlight in one! This blush is so pretty if you do not already have it, YOU NEED IT!

Milani Rose Blush in Tea Rose ($8)

milani 3

I feel like these rose blushes are not as popular as they should be. Aside from the beautiful packaging, these blushes, especially the shade Tea Rose, are gorgeous! They give just the right amount of pigment, so you won’t pick up too much product, and they blend out so well. This shade in particular I think will look great on any skin tone if you are looking for the perfect touch of pink to brighten up your  cheeks!

Milani Bella Eyes shadows ($4)

milani 8

I have already mentioned these shadows in a previous blog post so I won’t go into too much detail but they are just beautiful shadows. There are also a wide variety of shades and they are very pigmented.

Milani Brow Shaping Gel ($4)

milani 4

I have also mentioned this product on my blog before but it is my all time favorite brow gel! I use this stuff every single day and is a great dupe for the Anastasia Beverly Hills brow gel for a fraction of the price!

Milani Conceal + Perfect foundation ($10)

milani 6

I love this foundation! It is a full coverage foundation and gives a beautiful demi- matte finish to the skin. I have heard that people with oilier skin do not like this foundation, but I have oily skin and it works for me!

I hope y’all enjoyed this post! I definitely recommend trying these products out if you haven’t already!

Beauty Hacks!!

These are my absolute favorite “beauty hacks”! Some of these you have probably heard so many times before but these are just the ones that I use almost everyday or every time I apply makeup and work really well for me!

Hack #1: Using eye drops to reduce redness. Eye drops help relieve redness and irritation for your eyes, so why not try it out to see if it does the same thing for your skin? If I have a blemish that is really red and irritated, using eye drops will not make the redness go away completely, but it does tone it down slightly (in my opinion) and makes life a little easier when color correcting.

Hack #2: Using the same eye drops to enhance eyeshadow. Instead of using a setting spray, sometimes it is easier to just dip my brush in Visine- A and call it a day (lol). Everyone probably knows that using a setting spray on a shimmery shadow makes it more metallic and enhances the pigmentation- well, eyedrops do the exact same thing!

Hack #3: Using Nivea Creme (small tin) to hydrate the under eye area. I mentioned this product in my recent May Favorites post and I love it! I use it not only as a hand lotion but as an under eye moisturizer. I just take the smallest amount and apply it under the eyes before I start applying my makeup for the day. I find that it has kept my concealer from creasing and makes everything apply smoother.

Hack #4: Using your toothbrush to exfoliate dry lips. My lips are constantly dry, so an easy way to make them smoother and remove any dead skin is to just use my damp toothbrush and brush my lips! You only need to do this for a few seconds and your lips will instantly be softer and appear smoother. This also helps lip products glide on and not cling to any dry skin!

Hack #5: Using Monistat Chafing Relief Gel as a primer. I already have a whole post dedicated to explaining the madness behind this hack so I won’t go into too much detail, BUT IT DOES WORK! It is very strange but does a great job of smoothing out the skin and creating a nice base for any makeup and for oil control.

Hack #6: Depotting compact products. I don’t know if you can consider this a hack, but it is extremely helpful! I am obsessed with depotting my blushes, eyeshadows, and other powders and putting them in an empty palette. This saves so much space and makes putting on makeup so much easier when you have everything in one spot! Doing this is also great for traveling and having everything you need in one palette, rather than bringing a stack of palettes that take up a lot of space.

Hack #7: Use setting spray, THEN apply your highlighter. This one might be a little obvious, but makes a world of difference when applying your highlighter. This is kind of similar to using a setting spray (or the eye drops) on your brush to enhance the pigment of a shadow. Applying a highlighter overtop of a setting spray will make it more intense!

Again, these are my favorite beauty hacks that I use almost every day! I hope these were helpful and you learned something new!

Makeup Guide: Drugstore Foundations

I am a big fan of finding great foundations at the drugstore! I have purchased a few higher end foundations before, however sometimes the ones that are less expensive perform just as well if not better.

Here are some foundations that I love from the drugstore that work for combo to oily skin, dryer skin, and also some that are perfect for any skin type! These are also great to use at any time of the year!

Combo- Oily Skin Types

L’Oreal Infallible Pro- Matte liquid foundation ($10-12)

found 4

I have already talked about this product on my blog before but it is a great foundation for oilier skin types. It is so good I almost can’t believe it is drugstore! This foundation does a great job of controlling oil and staying in place all day.

Maybelline Fit Me! Matte + Poreless liquid foundation ($6-7)

found 5

I have mentioned this one a couple of times as well but again, it is a great foundation for more combination skin.  This one also controls oil really well, but gives more of a natural “dewey” (but not a shiny type of “dewey”) finish to the skin.

Maybelline Dream Wonder Fluid- Touch liquid foundation ($7-8)

found 6

I do not think I have ever talked about this foundation on my blog before but it is really great! It is more of a liquid- powder formula but I really like to mix some of this in with another foundation to reap the benefits of both! This has a beautiful finish and is great for combo- oily skin!

Dry Skin Types

L’Oreal True Match Lumi liquid foundation ($11)

found 2

This foundation is a fantastic drugstore foundation for dry skin types (I would definitely not pick this one up if you are oily). It gives a gorgeous finish and does not accentuate dryness at all!

L’Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion foundation ($13-15)

found 3

Cushion foundations are kind of trending now, but this one is a great drugstore option! This foundation is really meant for dryer skin, BUT if you are on the oily side and want to test a more luminous foundation, I would definitely go for this one over the original L’Oreal True Match Lumi. The only downside in these cushion foundations is that you do not get as much product, but a little goes a long way and it gives a beautiful “lit from within” glow!

All Skin Types

L’Oreal True Match liquid foundation ($7-8)

found 1

This is hands down one of the best liquid foundations the drugstore has to offer. The OG L’Oreal True Match is the perfect foundation for any skin type and the range of color options and shades is out of this world! If you are starting off as a makeup artist, this is a great foundation to keep in your kit because there is such a large shade range, it is inexpensive, and works with any skin type. This was one of the first foundations I ever purchased when I started using makeup and is still one of my favorites today!

Overall, L’Oreal kind of dominated this Makeup Guide post, but they really do a great job with foundations! I hope this was helpful and guides you in the right direction the next time you go on the hunt for an inexpensive foundation that suits your skin type!

Makeup Guide: Best Drugstore Single Eyeshadows

Sometimes it can be hard to find a great quality eyeshadow at the drugstore, but these are my top three favorites that are inexpensive, yet perform like high end shadows.

** The swatches are just the eyeshadow- no primer and no setting spray!**

L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadows ($7-8)

loreal infallible

These are swatches of a few of the shades I own. My favorite shade is Amber Rush (middle shade). This is the shadow that everyone raves about because it is just that amazing. Whenever I use this shadow I almost can’t believe that it is drugstore! These shadows are extremely pigmented and so soft and buttery they almost feel like cream shadows, but they are a pressed powder. Love these!!

Maybelline Color Tattoos ($6-7)

color tat

Again, just some swatches of two of my most used shades from the Color Tattoo range. These are cream shadows and I love using them as a base for my other shadows. They enhance the pigment and stay on all day without creasing. I like to use the matte Creamy Beige shade as an eyeshadow base and it works just as well as a MAC Paint Pot. Both the shimmery and matte shades from the “Leathers” line are amazing!

Milani Bella Eyes Gel Powder Eyeshadows ($4-5)

milani bella

And lastly, these Milani shadows are to die for! I will be honest though, not all shades from the line are created equally, but these three are my favorite shades (Bella Emerald, Bella Espresso, Bella Champagne). These are very pigmented and do feel very smooth and creamy. They also blend very well. I do prefer to use these over a base or with setting spray on my brush, but they are outstanding on their own as well.

Morning & Night Skincare Routine

This is how I have been taking care of my skin morning and night for the past month or so. It has really been working for me, so I thought I would share! I have oily skin, but the only product that I use that is geared towards oily skin is the cleanser. Every other product I use is great for any skin type!

Morning Skincare

  • I start off by refreshing my skin with the Origins Zero Oil facial cleanser (mentioned in my May Beauty Favorites).
  • Then I apply the Clean & Clear Dual Action Moisturizer (a little of this stuff goes a long way!).
  • Spray a generous amount of the Mario Badescu Rosewater Facial Spray all over my face and let it air dry.
  • If I am going to be outside that day, then I will also apply Neutrogena Sport facial sunscreen (SPF 70) to the parts of my face that typically get more red in the sun, which is mostly my T-Zone.

That’s it for my morning routine! I like to keep it very simple and fast and then I kick it up a notch with my night routine.

Night Skincare

  • If I am wearing makeup that day, I use coconut oil to gently massage away any eye makeup. Then I take a cotton pad drenched with Simple Miscellar Cleansing Water and wipe away my raccoon eyes (lol). Then I take a makeup wipe and put more miscellar cleansing water on that and remove the rest of my face makeup. I like to add the miscellar water to the already moistened remover wipe to remove every last bit of makeup and put hydration back into my skin.
  • Next, I cleanse my face using the same Origins Zero Oil cleanser.
  • Twice a week, I will exfoliate my T-Zone using the St. Ives Apricot Scrub. This stuff is really coarse, so I only like to use it twice a week and very gently.
  • Then I apply the same Clean & Clear moisturizer.
  • I take 2-3 drops of Rosehip oil onto my hands and press that into my skin all over my face. This oil is basically magic in a jar and helps to fade scarring, dark spots, and even out the skin tone. It is also great for anti- aging!
  • I also like to give my face a good spray with the Mario Badescu Rosewater spray.
  • Lastly, if I need to, I will use the Mario Badescu drying lotion on any blemishes. I apply it using a Q- Tip and leave it on overnight.

And that’s all I do for my morning and night skincare! Like I said, this has really been working for me and I have definitely noticed a difference!
