June Beauty Favorites!

I have a bunch of beauty products that I have been loving this month! Some of these I have had for a while that I have re-discovered and have been using the heck out of!

Wet N Wild Color Icon Bronzer in “Bikini Contest”

june 13

This bronzer is GORGEOUS! It is the perfect bronze shade. The texture is very smooth and the pigmentation is great. This is not a matte bronzer, but it is also not glittery at all. It just gives the perfect bronzed and glowy look, perfect for summer. I would not recommend using this as a contour shade or if you are very fair because it is very warm- toned.

Covergirl Tru Blend Bronzer in “Bronze”

june 6

This is another drugstore bronzer that I have been obsessed with. This one is more subtle than the Wet N Wild one and is not as warm. This bronzer will work better with a wider variety of skin tones. Again, this is not a matte bronzer, but is not super glittery and gives a gorgeous summer glow.

Lancome Blush Subtil in “Blushing Tresor”

june 7

This is a beautiful blush that I have been using almost everyday. It is a peachy toned blush with golden reflects in it, so it gives a natural flushed and highlighted look.

MAC Eyeshadow in “Nylon”

june 10

This is one of MAC’s most popular eyeshadows and in my opinion, it is the perfect brow bone and inner corner highlight. It is a frosty highlight shade with a slight yellow undertone and it absolutely gorgeous. After using it for the first time, I understood why everyone always talks about this shade!

Wet N Wild MegaGlo Illuminating Palette june 1

This highlighting palette is so pretty! The colors are gorgeous and can be used individually or you can mix them all together. I love how the strips are big enough to dip your brush into each one if you just want a specific shade. There is a lot of kick off when you go to pick up the product with a brush, but the pigmentation is great and it looks beautiful on the cheekbones.

John Frieda Frizz Ease Air-Dry Waves foam

june 8

I am not a big fan of putting styling products in my hair, but I love this stuff! It does not leave my hair feeling “crunchy” and gives a beachy wave look. My hair is already naturally wavy/ curly so this just enhances in a way that looks natural and effortless. All I do is I apply 2-3 pumps into the palm of my hands and massage/ squeeze it into my hair from root to tip. It gives great volume and reduces some of the frizz.

Murad Oil- Control Mattifier

june 9

This product has been a life saver for me all month! You apply it as a moisturizer (I only like to use it on the days I am going to be doing my makeup) and it does a great job of keeping oily skin at bay. I also do not have any issues applying makeup over top of this, but you can still use your everyday makeup primer overtop of this between the Murad and your makeup. It is a pretty thick consistency (feels like my normal facial sunscreen) but it does not feel heavy and sinks into the skin quickly.

Johnson’s Baby Shampoo

june 2

This might seem like an odd product, but this has been my favorite way to clean my brushes. It leaves them feeling extremely soft, rinses out really easily, and of course gets every bit of makeup out of the brush hairs.

Elf Stipple Brush

june 5

This has been my favorite brush to apply bronzer and even blush. The brush hairs are really soft and not too dense so they apply product very softly and evenly. Love it!

Real Techniques Small Setting Brush & Retractible Bronzing Brush

The small setting brush is the only brush I have been using to set my under eye area and other places I have applied concealer. I have also been using this brush to clean up my contour underneath the cheekbone because it is just the perfect size!

The retractible bronzing brush has been my go-to brush not for bronzer, but for foundation. It is a stipple brush, but the brush hairs are more densely packed than the Elf stipple brush, so I find that it applied foundation beautifully without leaving patches and soaking up too much product.

Lip Combo: Wet N Wild MegaLast lipstick in “Just Peachy” and NYX Butter Gloss in “Fortune Cookie”

I have been using this lip combo basically every time I have done my makeup the past few weeks. Y’all already know how much I love the NYX Butter Glosses, but this shade just looks so good just applied in the center of the lips overtop of the Wet N Wild lipstick. This combo looks so pretty with bronzed makeup!

Best Of: Wet N Wild Cosmetics

I have mentioned Wet N Wild products so many times in my blog posts, but for such an inexpensive brands, a lot of their products are so amazing! I have not tried every product from the line, but here are my favorite products from Wet N Wild that I have tried and use religiously.

*All prices listed come from the Wet N Wild website*

MegaLast Lip Color ($1.99)

wet 1

These lipsticks are a common favorite from the brand, but they really are fantastic. The formula is a little dry at first, but if you warm it up a little on the back of your hand you will get an even application that is opaque and budge- proof all day long.

MegaLast Nail Color/ Polish ($1.99)

wet 2

These are some of my favorite polishes from the drugstore! The brush on these polishes is amazing and allows for a flawless application. The colors are also gorgeous! I like some of these polishes better than ones from OPI!

ColorIcon Blushes ($2.99)

wet 3

These blushes are also a common favorite. All of the shades are beautiful and they apply evenly and are not patchy at all! They have matte and shimmer shades for a blush/ highlighted look.

PhotoFocus Setting Spray ($4.99)

wet 5

I only like two setting sprays from the drugstore and this is one of them! I find that it sets and prolongs the wear of my makeup really well. The only downside is that the spray is not as fine as I would like, but that has never ruined my makeup and it still does the job.

Reserve Your Cabana “Bronzer” ($3.99)

wet 4

I already have a full post dedicated to this gem so I won’t go too much into detail. If you don’t have this product in your makeup collection, I seriously recommend going and picking it up. It is a gorgeous subtle highlight for any skin tone!

MegaGlo Contouring Palettes ($4.99)

I have also talked about these two on my blog as well but they are SO GOOD! You get a ton of product and the formula is a powder, but the consistency is so smooth and soft it almost feels like a cream. These blend beautifully and have great pigmentation. If you are looking for a drugstore contour kit option, definitely pick these up.

MegaGlo Illuminating Palette ($4.99)

wet 7

This highlight palette is so pretty! It is more intense than the Reserve Your Cabana one I talked about above if you want something with a little more glow power. Again, you get a good amount of product and the strips are big enough to just pick up one shade, or combine all four shades for a beautiful highlight.

Pink and White Brushes ($0.99-$2.99)

wet 8

All of these brushes are FANTASTIC! I am obsessed with them and use them everyday. They are so incredibly soft and for the price you would pay for one MAC brush, you could get every brush from this collection! I cannot say enough about these, they are just great, great brushes for any price range.

These next two products I could not find on the Wet N Wild website, but I have seen them in the drugstore.

PhotoFocus Eyeshadow Primer ($4.99)- This eye primer is amazing and it works the same, if not better, than the Urban Decay one!

ColorIcon Ombre Blushes ($4.99)- These are shimmery blushes but are so pretty! You can use them as a blush, blush topper, or as a highlight depending on which part of the ombre you pick up with your blush! They blend and apply just as well as the original ColorIcon blushes and are just so good.

May Beauty Favorites!

These are all the products that I have been loving for the month of May!

First is my favorite lip combo this month! I have been obsessed with lining and filling in my lips with MAC Spice lip liner ( I have owned this for a while and just rediscovered how much I love it), then applying Maybelline’s matte lipstick in Nude Nuance (Maybelline has the best matte lipsticks at the drugstore), and over top of that applying NYX Butter Gloss in Madeleine (I have a post all about my love for the Butter Glosses!).

(Check out my Morphe 35O eye look from a previous post to see this lip martini in action!)

Maybelline Better Skin Concealer- Light/ Medium

may 1

I have already talked about how obsessed I am with Maybelline concealers but this one is by far my favorite! It makes the under eye area look absolutely flawless, gives great coverage without looking and feeling heavy, and DOES NOT CREASE!

Original Nivea Creme

may 6

I have been using the Nivea Creme not only as a hand lotion but to also hydrate the under eye area. A little of this stuff goes a long way so I just pick up a little bit of product with my finger and pat it under my eyes (NEVER rub in). Doing this has really helped with creasing and makes me look more awake. I also love how small and compact this product is and it is only $1!

Anthropologie Vanille Perfume

may 5

I am not sure if this is a well- known product or not but this has become my favorite perfume this month! I heard beauty vlogger Jaclyn Hill rave about this perfume in a favorites video from a while ago and I definitely understand why! This perfume is sold exclusively at Anthropologie stores but I have found it on Amazon as well ($10 for travel size, $20 for full size). IF YOU LIKE VANILLA PERFUMES YOU NEED THIS IN YOUR LIFE. I am head over heels in love with this perfume and it lasts all day.

L’Oreal Carbon Black Voluminous Mascara

may 4

Y’all have definitely seen this mascara before but it lives up to all the hype for sure! This mascara is black as all get out and gives my lashes so much volume it’s ridiculous! I don’t need to say anything else about this other than I love it and you need it.

Origins Zero Oil Cleanser and Zero Oil Mattifyer

These are the only two products from Origins I have and after trying these two this month, I am definitely going back to pick up some more! If you have oily skin, I definitely recommend the Zero Oil cleanser. It has a minty smell and feels so refreshing on the skin. I apply it with my fingers in the morning and with a complexion brush at night. Using this, I have noticed my pores have tightened and become smaller and I am not as oily throughout the day. I also had a few acne scars on my jawline that this stuff took care of really quickly!

The mattifyer is a liquid to powder formula. All you do is drop a little bit out onto your finger and pat, not rub, the liquid onto the areas that are getting shiny or oily and BOOM- instant mattification (is that a word?). You can use this with or without makeup on, and when I use this over makeup, it does not disturb it at all. I love keeping this on me at all time so instead of blotting and picking up product off my face with a tissue, I just dab on some of this and I am good to go!

My Favorite Dry Shampoos

Honestly, I don’t think I could live without dry shampoo. I use it everyday, even when my hair is not greasy, because it adds fantastic volume! I have tried drugstore and higher end dry shampoos and I always lean towards the drugstore option more because it gives the same result while being a fraction of the price. Here are my favorites:

  1. Batiste Dry Shampoo ($8)batisteBatiste Dry Shampoo is my number one favorite dry shampoo! I am sure most of you have heard someone rave about this stuff and it is for good reason. You can find it for around $8 at Ulta or any drugstore. I use the one for brown and dark hair colors, but the great thing about Batiste is that they have a wide variety of products for any hair type. They have a regular dry shampoo, one for red hair, blonde hair, and many more options! This one also does not leave my hair feeling like there is a dry shampoo in it, and absorbs all the grease, making my hair look like I just washed it. I love this stuff!

2. Tresemme Fresh Start Dry Shampoo ($5)

tresemme

This is another great drugstore dry shampoo that is widely available. This one only comes in one type, unlike the Batiste one, but it works just as well. The only gripe I have about this one is that you have to work a little harder to fade out the “baby powder” look in my dark hair, but it does not leave my hair feeling like there product in it.

3. Dove Dry Shampoo ($4)

dove

This option is again, really great as well. The same goes for this one though, it only comes in one type and is a little bit harder to blend out, but the result is amazing and it smells SO GOOD! Like, I would buy a perfume that smells like this lol.

4. Garnier Fructis Volume Extend Dry Shampoo ($6)

garnier

This is one that I have tried most recently. It also only comes in one kind, but it is really easy to blend out and smells like Jolly Ranchers! I really like this one and love the results!

These products all basically do the same thing (especially the last three), but this is just to show how many great dry shampoo options there are at the drugstore that are very budget friendly. I cycle through all four of these and they are great products to try!

Hidden Gem at the Drugstore: Jordana Best Lash Extreme Volumizing Mascara

Jordana is a drugstore brand that can be found at Walgreens only (I am pretty sure) and I feel like this brand is never really talked about. I do love their lip liners, but that is the only product that I had ever tried from the line. I was watching a Kathleen Lights video on YouTube (beauty vlogger) and she said this is her favorite drugstore mascara. It is only around $3 so I decided to give it a try and if I didn’t end up liking it, then I wouldn’t feel bad because it was so inexpensive. Other than from Kathleen, I have not heard anything about this product so I just decided to try it out for myself!

jordana mascara

Bottom line: I LOVE THIS MASCARA! Here’s why…

  • It adds so much volume to my lashes without making them clumpy however, you only need two coats of this stuff or else it can look a little too thick and unnatural.
  • The wand is the perfect size to really make an impact on the lashes and applies the product evenly.
  • This is not a waterproof mascara and comes right off with my usual makeup remover- coconut oil.
  • It is only advertised as a volumizing mascara, but it does add length to my lashes and it holds a curl beautifully. Sometimes I like to add Covergirl’s Supersize mascara (lengthening mascara) to the tips of my lashes to get the best of both worlds but it still looks great without that extra step!
  • It works well for bottom lashes as well.
  • It does not smudge or flake.

The Maybelline Colossal mascara (yellow tube) was my ride or die favorite drugstore mascara, but the only thing I was not a fan of was the fact that it did not hold a curl for very long. This Jordana mascara is awesome and definitely something that I will continue to repurchase!

YouTube Made Me Buy It!- Physician’s Formula Butter Bronzer

butter bronzbutter bronzer

If anyone is obsessed with watching beauty vloggers on YouTube like I am, then you might have seen this product, the Physician’s Formula Butter Bronzer ($13), appear quite often. After seeing and hearing about how awesome it was time and time again, I decided to finally buy it. I hesitated a little just because even for a drugstore bronzer, this one is on the more expensive side and I have so many bronzers that I love already. But, I still wanted to give this one a try to see if it was really as amazing as I had seen all over YouTube.

Before I applied the bronzer onto my skin, these were my first impressions:

  • The packaging is adorable but a little bulky because the bronzer pan flips up and underneath there is a foam applicator and mirror (the foam applicator I actually have been keeping in my purse to blot my face throughout the day rather than using it for the actual bronzer).
  • The bronzer smells SO GOOD! It smells very tropical and coconut-y, like a Pina Colada and I’m obsessed. If you do not like that kind of scent though, it is not extremely strong and it does go away after a few minutes.
  • When I swatched the product on my finger, it is EXTREMELY soft, like it actually feels like butter (hence the name lol).
  • There is only one shade of this bronzer. It looks very light in the pan and when swatched, it has good pigmentation, but it is just a light bronzer so unfortunately this product would not work well with deeper skin tones. I have olive skin, but if you are much tanner than that, I would probably pass on this product.
  • Also when swatched, the product does have a very very slight shimmer to it, almost more of a sheen. There is no glitter whatsoever, but this bronzer is not completely matte. I don’t mind this at all though and I think it will look beautiful for the summer!
  • The product is neutral toned.

When I applied it to my face:

  • I use the Morphe M527 for bronzer but any bronzing/ fluffy brush will work.
  • Overall, this product is BEAUTIFUL! I have only used it twice and it has already become one of my new favorites! The shimmer barely shows up on the skin, but just gives a beautiful glowy look (nothing shiny or glittery about it!). This can be used as a contour powder also, but it just does something to make the skin look very summer-y and sun-kissed.
  • I wouldn’t say this product is a perfect dupe for Benefit’s Hoola bronzer (even though it looks like it could be) just because this one is not completely matte and is slightly lighter.
  • The product applied smoothly and evenly onto the skin.

So, bottom line is that this product is beautiful and I think that anyone going back and forth about purchasing it should go for it! It is a bit more expensive, but use an Ulta coupon or wait for it to go on sale at the drugstore. But in my opinion, I definitely think this product is worth the hype!

Makeup Products for Combo to Oily Skin

These are my favorite products that I love to use for combo to oily skin types. There are drugstore and a few higher end products listed and some products that I have not mentioned before on my blog! These are all products that I will continue to repurchase time and time again when I run out.

Primers:

  • Benefit POREfessional pore minimizing face primer ($31)
  • Monistat Chafing Relief powder gel ($6- I have a post dedicated to explaining this product it is awesome!)

Foundations:

  • Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless liquid foundation ($8)
  • L’Oreal Infallible Pro- Matte liquid foundation ($12)
  • L’Oreal Infallible Pro- Matte powder foundation ($10)
  • Georgio Armani Luminous Silk liquid foundation ($62- this stuff is really good for people who want a luminous finish without looking too shiny or greasy).

Setting Powders:

  • Coty Airspun Loose setting powder in Translucent ($7- be careful with flash photography because this stuff can cause the dreaded flash- back!).
  • Rimmel Stay Matte pressed powder in Translucent ($4)
  • Anastasia Beverly Hills pressed setting powder in Banana ($40 in whole contour kit, $14 for individual pan- this is great for setting the under eye area, not necessarily for the whole face).

Eye Primers:

  • Maybelline 24hr Color Tattoos ($5- These are great if you have oily eyelids and need a good primer or cream eyeshadow that does not crease. I like to use them as a base for my eyeshadows, especially the shade Creamy Beige from the Leathers line).

Concealers:

  • MAC Pro Longwear concealer ($20)
  • L.A. Girl Pro Concealer ($3)

Bronzers:

  • Rimmel Natural Bronzers ($4)
  • Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer ($13- this has a very slight shimmer but it is almost undetectable on the skin)

Blushes:

  • Wet N Wild Color Icon blushes ($3- the matte and shimmer shades are all fantastic!)
  • NYX HD blushes ($7- matte and shimmer)

Setting Spray:

  • L’Oreal Infallible Makeup Extender setting spray ($15- a bit pricey for drugstore, but you get A LOT of product).

2 Mario Badescu Products I LOVE

I have only tried 2 products from the Mario Badescu skincare line and they are the two products that I feel are the most talked about and popular.

The first product is the Rosewater Facial Spray ($5-7).

mariobadescufacialspraywithaloeherbsrosewater_1_gl

This product can be found online, at Ulta, or I have even seen this line at Anthropologie stores (it is the same price everywhere). I was hesitant to use this stuff because I have sensitive skin, but this stuff is awesome! I spray this all over my face and neck morning and night after I cleanse my face AND I even spray it over makeup throughout the day as a setting spray and I really like it. It has a fresh rose scent and is nothing overpowering and basically just feels like water. There is nothing in here that leaves an uncomfortable feeling on the skin. Also, I have a few acne scars and my skin can be a little splotchy and uneven, but since I have been using this product, I have noticed my scarring has gone away and it has brightened and evened out my skin. It says on the bottle that you will never want to be without this stuff and I completely agree! This is a product that I will always want to have on hand and will use everyday.

The second product is the Drying Lotion ($17).

mario lotion

This product is a little bit higher in price compared to some of their other products but this stuff will last FOREVER!! It is an intense spot treatment and this stuff is magic in a bottle. All you do is take a Q-Tip and dip it into the bottle to pic up some of the pink sediment at the bottom (DO NOT SHAKE) and then dab it onto your pimple and leave it there overnight to do its thing. I notice a difference overnight and this is by far the fastest- working spot treatment I have ever tried. I have had the same bottle for about a year and am nowhere close to running out. This stuff is a life saver and totally worth it!

Top 5 Under $5!

These are my top 5 favorite, hidden gem products that can be found at your drugstore (except #2) for $5 or less!

  1. Wet N Wild MegaGlo Contouring Palette, $4.99

Wet-n-Wild-Contour-Palette

This contouring duo (shade Caramel Toffee) is by far the creamiest and most pigmented contour palette that I have found at the drugstore. For the price, you would think that this would be chalky as heck and poor quality, but even though this is a powder, it feels so buttery and creamy. I did not find that it applied chalky or patchy, but it does have quite a bit of kick- off. A little does go a long way because it is so pigmented, so use a light hand. The yellow powder does not crease when I use it to set my under eye concealer and the contour shade is warm but not too orange. They do have a lighter palette with a more pink- toned highlight shade and a more cool, grey toned contour shade. I have been really impressed by Wet N Wild products recently and they are cruelty free!

UPDATE!! I just purchased the lighter shade, Dulce De Leche, of this contour palette and the quality is just as smooth and creamy and pigmented as the darker shade (above). This palette is on the cooler side, with a pink- toned highlight shade, and more grey- toned contour shade but it still looks great and doesn’t make my face look “dirty” or muddy.

2. Morphe M310 Fan Brush, $4.99

morphe fan brush

This is my favorite brush to apply highlighter! It is just a typical fan brush, but it applies highlighter beautifully and you can’t beat the price! The only downside is that you can only purchase Morphe products online from their website, but they are so worth it!

3. Milani Eyebrow Gel, $4

milani gel

This brow gel is awesome! It does not make your brows feel crusty but will keep them in place ALL DAY. I feel like this basically does the same thing as the Anastasia Beverly Hills brow gel but this one is a fraction of the price!

4. Elf Eyeshadow Primer, $2

elf primer

This eyeshadow primer is dirt cheap but works extremely well! I feel like this could even be a great dupe for the Urban Decay Original Primer Potion. When I wear this, my shadows don’t crease and looks great all day!

5. Jordana Lip Liner in Tawny, $2

jordana tawny

Jordana is a very inexpensive brand that can be found at Walgreens and I feel like their products can be overlooked. Their lip liners are awesome, especially the shade Tawny. This shade can be worn under any lip color because it is basically the color of your natural lips and is also great for over lining lips.

My Top 3 Favorite DRUGSTORE BRONZERS

nyc-sunny-bronzerrimmel bronzerloreal bronzer

Top to bottom: NYC Bronzer in shade Sunny ($3, also a good dupe for Benefit’s Hoola bronzer), Rimmel Natural Bronzer in shade Sun Light ($5), and this last one is actually a pressed powder but is an amazing matte bronzer, the L’Oreal True Match powder in shade Nut Brown ($7).

Good matte bronzers can be tricky to find at the drugstore, but these are my top three favorites that I have found so far!

IMG_8533This is what they look like in natural sunlight in the same order (left to right: NYC, Rimmel, L’Oreal). I have olive skin and these are all perfect shades and can work for other skin types too. Even if you are not quite as tan, using these products with a light hand can still work for you. The NYC and Rimmel bronzers are very similar in color, but I find that the Rimmel powder has a little bit more pigment. The L’Oreal powder is quite pigmented because it is meant to be a pressed powder, but when blended out at a bronzer it gives a gorgeous finish (this is also a great option for different skin tones because L’Oreal True Match pressed powders have a wide variety of shades). I major issue with looking for a drugstore bronzer is that they can be too orange toned and splotchy, but I do not have this problem with any of these options.

With summer coming up, these bronzers will last through the heat! Hopefully this helps the next time you are on the hunt for a good drugstore bronzer!
